Traditional Values Hold Firm In Leeds
Buoyed by high supply and affordable prices, the traditional English
terrace remains the home of choice for Yorkshire homebuyers, reports

Research by email4property.co.uk, the country’s largest network of online estate agents, has shown that terraced and semi-detached homes remain a favourite with northern homebuyers, in many areas offering a more affordable option than smaller, modern apartments.
While people in London and the South East may be willing to pay a premium to live in contemporary apartment schemes, homebuyers in Leeds have stayed loyal to the quintessential northern terrace, which offers a more affordable option, with average prices typically 20% lower than the average property price in the city.
David Bexon, Managing Director of email4property, comments:
“As with every major destination in the country, Leeds has experienced significant development in and around its city centre. However, contemporary apartment schemes have never dominated sales in this area. The traditional terrace has become iconic of the British way of life and there are strong signs that they are becoming the property of choice with homebuyers here, ahead of smaller, and in some cases more expensive modern style homes."
“Housebuilders have certainly awoken to this requirement, responding to calls for more family friendly accommodation with something of a terrace revival in new home building. Terraced properties also present a property ownership cycle which keeps them in constant demand. They frequently provide a first or second step on the property ladder for young buyers, many of whom may return to these homes to downsize upon retirement or when children leave home.”
